Limestone Floor Cleaning & Sealing
Professional Limestone Floor Cleaning in Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire
Limestone is one of the most elegant natural stone flooring choices available, prized for its soft, chalky tones and the way it brings light and warmth into a room. It is also one of the most sensitive stones to clean. Limestone is highly porous, reacts badly to acidic cleaning products, and scratches relatively easily — which is why maintaining it correctly matters so much.
At Crisp & Brite we have spent over 40 years working with limestone floors of all ages and conditions across Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. Whether your floor has been neglected, has deep staining, has etched marks from spilled drinks, or simply needs a thorough clean and reseal to look its best again, we have the expertise to restore it.
Why Limestone Requires Special Care
Limestone is calcium carbonate — the same mineral that makes up chalk. This gives it its beautiful appearance, but it also means:
Acidic substances (lemon juice, vinegar, wine, certain cleaning products) etch and permanently damage the surface
Unsealed limestone absorbs spills almost instantly, leading to deep staining that is very difficult to remove
Traffic wears down the surface over time, dulling the finish
Grout lines on limestone floors require careful cleaning to avoid damage to the adjacent stone
Using the wrong products — which is very easy to do — can cause permanent damage to limestone that is costly and sometimes impossible to fully reverse. Professional cleaning eliminates this risk entirely.
Our Limestone Cleaning Service
Assessment
We assess your limestone floor in detail before we start — noting the type of limestone, existing sealant condition, any etch marks, staining or physical damage, and the best approach for your specific floor.
Gentle deep cleaning
We use specialist alkaline stone cleaners that are safe on calcium carbonate stones, combined with professional rotary equipment to deep clean the surface and grout lines without risking any damage to the stone.
Stain and etch treatment
Where there are etch marks or deep stains, we apply targeted treatments and, where necessary, use diamond polishing to restore an even finish to the affected areas.
Polishing
Limestone can be finished in a range of ways — from a natural matte finish to a high polished marble-like shine. We discuss your preference and apply the appropriate polishing process to achieve the right result for your floor and your home.
Sealing
We seal every limestone floor we clean using a penetrating impregnating sealant designed for calcareous (calcium carbonate) stones. This provides robust protection against future staining without altering the natural appearance of the stone.
Limestone Floor Restoration
For floors that have been heavily damaged — deep etch marks, significant staining, cracked or broken tiles, or years of accumulated neglect — we offer a full limestone restoration service. Using diamond grinding and polishing equipment, we restore the surface level and finish of the stone before resealing, leaving a floor that looks entirely new.
