Our Sandstone Cleaning Process

1. Initial inspection and test

We begin by assessing the condition of your sandstone floor — its age, the type of sandstone, any existing sealant, and the level of soiling. We always test our cleaning solutions in an inconspicuous area first.

2. Pre-treatment

A specialist stone pre-treatment solution is applied to loosen ingrained dirt and break down any grease or oils sitting within the pores of the stone.

3. Deep rotary cleaning

We use professional rotary scrubbing equipment to clean deep into the surface and grout lines, lifting out the dirt that has built up over years. All water and waste is extracted to leave the floor clean and as dry as possible.

4. Rinse and neutralise

The floor is thoroughly rinsed and neutralised to ensure no cleaning residue is left behind, which could affect the sealant or the long-term appearance of the stone.

5. Sealing

Once the floor is clean and fully dry, we apply a penetrating stone sealant appropriate for sandstone. This protects the stone against future staining, makes it far easier to maintain, and brings out the natural warmth of the colour.

If your sandstone floor has been heavily scratched, etched, or has lost its finish entirely, we can carry out a full restoration. This involves diamond grinding and re-polishing the surface to remove scratches and level any uneven areas before resealing. The result is a floor that looks as good as the day it was laid.
