Travertine Floor Cleaning & Sealing
Professional Travertine Cleaning in Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire
Travertine is a beautiful and distinctive natural stone, instantly recognisable by its warm, creamy tones and the characteristic small holes and channels formed during its creation. These natural features give travertine its appeal, but they also make it one of the more complex natural stones to clean and maintain properly.
The team at Crisp & Brite have been cleaning and restoring travertine floors for over 40 years. We understand exactly how the stone behaves, how to clean the open pores and grout lines without damaging the surrounding surface, and how to achieve a finish that is both protective and true to the natural character of the stone.
The Unique Challenges of Travertine
The natural holes and pores in travertine trap dirt, grease and bacteria — and are almost impossible to clean effectively with a mop
Like limestone, travertine is calcium carbonate and reacts badly to acidic cleaning products
Grout lines between travertine tiles are often filled with a pale grout that discolours over time
Traffic polishes down the surface layer over time, leaving a dull, uneven finish
Unfilled travertine (with open holes) requires specialist cleaning that does not leave residue in the voids
Our Travertine Cleaning Process
Assessment and pre-treatment
We examine the condition of your travertine carefully — noting whether it is filled or unfilled, the extent of soiling, any existing sealant, and areas of particular concern such as grout discolouration or surface etching.
Deep cleaning
Using stone-safe alkaline cleaning products and professional rotary scrubbing equipment, we deep clean the surface and grout lines. Our equipment extracts all waste water as we go, leaving the floor clean and as dry as possible.
Hole filling (where required)
For unfilled or partially filled travertine, we can infill the natural voids using a colour-matched grout or resin to create an even surface. This not only improves the appearance but makes the floor much easier to keep clean going forward.
Polishing
We can achieve a range of finishes on travertine, from a soft honed matte to a high polished shine, depending on your preference. The polishing process removes surface scratches and restores an even sheen across the whole floor.
Sealing
We apply a penetrating sealant designed for porous calcareous stones. This provides protection within the stone itself, guarding against future staining without changing the natural look of the travertine.
